Comments about Manitowoc S-Series Ice Maker, Cube Style, 325lb./24 Hours, 290lb. Capacity Bin:
[...]The fault lies with the manufacturer. Several issues:1. The manual was hidden inside the ice unit behind a door that was screwed shut with a screw. Bad location in the sense it said to first remove all sides before sitting on the bin! It needs to be in a heavy sealed package on top…or a sticker (probably a better solution) on top indicating the manual is inside the front door and to remove all sides before sitting on the bin. Simple 21st century solution.2. The manual is 19th century and the company does not seem to want to recognize that. The diagrams in the manual and the sticker on the back of the ice machine are archaic. I contacted them and they said they were guides. Well they are terrible guides and it is time this company get into the 21st century. With digital cameras and software it is extremely simple to create an addendum to any manual, by series or otherwise, with pictures of the units…especially the back. Neither of these diagrams were even close to the actual location of the water input or drain output or electrical connection area. The sticker showed 7, yes, 7 different locations and none correct. I am sending them simple pictures with the correct information using Snagit to show where each should be…they could do the same for any model and have all S series as an addendum…black and white fine…but we were completely disappointed with the diagrams.3. We expected the unit to come with an electrical cord…they had 4 different scenarios…a joke.. Just send a 10 gauge 6 foot power cord with a plug to put in the wall. Since these units may have to be moved for inspections behind them or to work on, no one would put a solid conduit on it…. I was completely amazed we did not know this before shipping. We had a 20 amp breaker and the store was of 12 gauge electrical cord so we put in a 10 gauge one.4. Water drain…the legs are far too short…the bin needs to sit 15 to 20 inches higher on longer legs that intertwine with each other via a bracket. We can't even hook it up until we build a 20 inch stand to raise it to just reach the base level of the sink water drain…the minimum for code for a water drain in a building. Even if I used this at home or in a school, etc I would have to build a stand. Selling longer legs or offering 2 – 3 different sizes to choose from or order would not only provide them with more revenue but would be a better customer service option. We had this delivered 3 weeks ago and are building the stand this weekend and then find a person to install it with flex tubing to a solid drain line. I really expected a coil of the two different sizes of flex tubing…we can't use solid all the way as the unit has to be able to be moved for inspections behind it or to work on it. We are running copper to the side of it and using flex of 6 feet to allow working on it. Just lots of as I call it in the computer world, nerds that don't look to the consumer to offer suggestions. Manitowoc may be a top of the line unit but customer service and common sense about technology are seriously lacking. Perhaps they need some tech folks to come on board and streamline the manual etc…. And I have this type of work in my background…these are terrible manuals with the tasteless diagrams. I would only recommend it based on the ice ability but not the manual and would tell others to completely disregard the manual.
